Students at Lane received a special treat at the annual LTAA Speakers Forum on March 27th when alumni from the Cubs organization brought along a prop for the ultimate "show & tell"! The audience listened intently to the story of how the Cubs planned their winning 2016 season and what their post-victory strategy is for 2017. Then the World Series Trophy emerged from behind the auditorium curtain to a cheering crowd. After photo ops on the stage, the trophy made a slow walk through the halls of Lane so each student could get a close up view. What a thrill!
How great. I remember that Phil Cavaretta went right from Lane to the Cubs and was a star outfielder for years. And on opening day many of us left school early to go to Wrigley Field and paid fifty cents to sit in the bleachers. I have been a Cub fan the year the cubs got pitcher Paul Dean from St. Louis to join with his brother Dizzy Dean and it seemed that would be a pitching duo that could bring the Cubs to a world series. "Wait till next year" became a regular comment. Now I will wait for this year when the Cubbies will win it again.
